Your Own Eggs by Christmas

Hatched in August, already out on pasture. These are young hens, not chicks, so there is no heat lamp and no brooder: they go straight outside and will start laying at 18 to 20 weeks old, which falls in December.

Three hens: R1,099, 30 kg of GMO-free feed, ± 15 eggs a week.
Five hens: R1,499, 50 kg of GMO-free feed, ± 25 eggs a week.
Extra hens: R249 each, feed included.

Feeder, lid and drinker included with both flocks. No rooster. No noise. Just eggs.

What You Get

Three Hens + 30 kg Feed + Kit: three pullets, a Poltek tube feeder with lid, a Poltek 4 litre drinker and 30 kg of feed (5 kg grower, 9 kg developer, 8 kg pre-lay, 8 kg layer).

Five Hens + 50 kg Feed + Kit: five pullets, the same feeder, lid and drinker, and 50 kg of feed (8 kg grower, 15 kg developer, 14 kg pre-lay, 13 kg layer).

Extra Hen + 10 kg Feed: one more pullet from the same batch with her own feed (2 kg grower, 3 kg developer, 3 kg pre-lay, 2 kg layer). No feeder or drinker, as the kit in either flock handles up to ten hens. Hens are flock birds, so add her to a flock.

That is 10 kg of GMO-free feed a hen: enough to take every hen to 20 weeks, plus layer feed for her first weeks of laying. It comes weighed out and labelled in the order you use it, so you always know what to feed next.

Additional Layer Feed (GMO-Free) can be purchased directly from us at wholesale rates.

FAQs

“Free range” animals technically have outdoor access, but it’s often just a small door to a limited yard — usually the same small patch of grass for their entire lives. In contrast, pasture-raised animals live on open pasture, moving across fresh grass where they can freely roam, forage, and graze as nature intended. The result is healthier animals, better nutrition, and superior taste — making pasture-raised the clear choice for quality and animal welfare.

Our chickens eat Eddie’s Feed exclusively — a certified GMO-free blend made right here in the Eastern Cape. They also enjoy plenty of fresh grasses, which make up about 10–15% of their diet, along with a healthy share of grasshoppers and other bug treats they find while foraging.

They’re incredibly versatile and cook in minutes. The most popular methods: • Pan-frying until golden and crispy (amazing meat-like texture). • Sautéing with butter, garlic, or herbs. • Adding to stir-fries, pasta, eggs, or soups. They absorb flavour beautifully, so simple seasoning works best.

Microgreens are young, tender vegetable seedlings harvested just after the first leaves form. They deliver intense flavor, high nutrient density, and beautiful color, making them perfect for salads, sandwiches, bowls, smoothies, or garnishing meals.

When refrigerated and kept dry, Heartfield Farms microgreens typically last: 7–10 days for most varieties. Up to 14 days for sturdier greens (sunflower, pea shoots).

Our microgreens are grown indoors in a controlled, clean environment and never touch soil, insects, or outdoor contaminants. We recommend a quick rinse before eating, but many customers use them straight from the punnet.

We don’t use any chemical fertilizers or sprays. Our microgreens are grown using organic growing principles, even though they’re not certified organic (certification is costly in SA).
